Production Training Workshops
Access Framingham offers hands-on training workshops to help you improve your TV production skills. For individual course descriptions, please refer to our Workshop Catalog.
When: Most AF-TV workshops are held on Wednesday evenings. Occasionally, we offer a workshop during the day, or on another evening. Evening workshops are from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Daytime workshops are from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
Where: Unless otherwise noted, all workshops are at the Access Framingham Studio, 4 Vernon Street.
Cost: All basic level classes are free for members. Be sure to take advantage of this free membership benefit! Some special video education courses will have a fee, with a discounted price for members.
Where Should I Begin? If you are new to video, start with Shooting in the Field 101. You’ll gain hands-on experience with the popular Sony PD-170 camcorder and be ready to videotape shows or news clips.

Multi-session Workshops: If a workshop is 2 or more sessions, you must attend ALL sessions to be certified. You cannot start a workshop after the first session without prior approval by the instructor.
November 2nd 7:00pm-New Member Orientation & Camcorder Jump-Start
Learn about your community media center and stay for our popular entry-level workshop which focuses on how to shoot high-quality video with a single camera. In this “Start Here” workshop you will learn how to use our basic camcorder, how to set up a tripod, and how to monitor audio levels while you record. Upon completion of this workshop, participants are certified to check out a JVC GY-HM150 solid-state camcorder to shoot video footage for AF-TV or Member productions.
November 9th-7:00pm-Shooting in the Field 101
Students learn more advanced functions of the JVC GY-HM150 camcorder. Through hands-on practice with this camcorder and a tripod you will learn how to customize camcorder settings. This workshop also teaches the basics of proper shot composition and audio recording using external microphones.
Prerequisite: Camcorder Jump-Start
November 16th-Event Coverage
This new workshop will be geared toward Non-Profit Group members and individuals that would like to broadcast meetings and events happening around the community. We will talk about camera placement, the importance of audio, and how to make an interesting program.
